Rev. James Marshall
Chief Ministry Officer
Rev. James A. Marshall, Jr. serves as the National Chief Ministry Officer of Volunteers of America. In this role, Marshall leads the vision for Volunteers of America’s ministry of service and Church Without Walls. Marshall works to strategically position the organization as a national faith leader and resource for spiritual care. He serves as a member of the executive management team and directs all aspects of the ministry’s strategic plan, thus providing visionary leadership to the organization's more than 600 ministers nationwide. Marshall’s leadership helps to ensure that the organization's 16,000 employees continue to achieve spiritual wellness as they serve the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
Marshall is a relationship expert, pastoral counselor, executive advisor, international speaker, published children’s book author and a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. In addition, he is a Gallup-trained Employee Engagement Instructor and a Gallup-trained Employee Talent Assessor. He has served in congregational ministry leadership for over 20 years. His work and services have been featured on numerous media outlets across the nation.
Marshall is originally from Washington, D.C. and attended Bowie State University for his undergraduate education and Capital Bible Seminary for his graduate education. He also holds several professional certifications across various disciplines including Global Human Resources Leadership, Executive Leadership, and Religious Non-Profit Leadership.
Beyond his service with Volunteers of America, Marshall currently serves on the board of directors for the Prince George’s County Family Justice Center Foundation and he is also the executive director of Kindred Hope.
